Dear Parents/Guardians, I wanted to reach out and express how great it has been to have our students reengaged in school. Between the In Person and the Remote Learning Option, we are so excited to see our students on a daily basis. In Person Update: Drop off and Pick Up-You all are doing a fantastic job with drop off and pick up. We have reduced the time from 30 minutes on day one to about 10 minutes recently. Thank you for your attention to the procedures and safely transitioning through the line/lanes. We develop our procedures in collaboration with Bourbonnais PD to ensure that we are adhering to all traffic laws and safety procedures. Our recent communication from SRO Garcia and Bourbonnais Police Department was about dropping off along Burns Road and the safety concerns. The first is that there is not a crossing guard or crosswalk to ensure students are safely crossing the street to enter school property. The second is that vehicles are not stopping at designated traffic stop locations which could impede the flow of traffic or create other potentially dangerous circumstances. We are looking into solutions for our students that walk/bike from the north side of Burns road. We ask that you please utilize the procedures we have developed to help ensure the safety of our students, families and other motorists. Bus-Students are not permitted to eat on the bus for any reason. Students would need to remove their mask to consume food and that is not permitted throughout the bus ride to and from school. Also, there are students on our buses that have food allergies and we need to ensure that there is no chance for a potentially harmful allergic reaction on the bus. Instruction-We’d like to reiterate that we are trying to get the bulk of our tier 1 instruction for core contents done while our students are present at school. Our teachers are focusing on the essential standards that students should learn within their specified grade level. This allows our students to engage in guided practice, extension activities, small groups, and individual interventions during the Learning at Home portion of their day. This also alleviates some of the stress on our families because you are supporting your students in a more traditional manner. In March, April, and May, parents bore the lion’s share of the instructional duties and we know that is a challenge to manage and execute. Teacher office hours are between 2:00-3:00pm to help students and families that are having difficulty with any of the work. They are also utilizing this time to answer any other questions that our families may have. Remote Learning Option (RLO) Update: Teachers are taking attendance beginning at 7:45 so they can get started with their instruction. One the teacher has taken attendance, they are not revisiting it until after school has concluded. After the initial attendance has been taken, it’s challenging to determine what students have entered the Zoom and at what time. Please make sure your student is logged in by the start of school. If there are log in issues, please contact your teacher for assistance. Liberty Update: We had a outstanding first day with our students!!!! It was fantastic to hear the hustle and bustle of kids at school. We can't wait to see them tomorrow. We have a couple reminders for car riders. As you noticed today, we have extremely large numbers of students getting dropped off and picked up. Please pull forward as far as possible to drop off and pick up. We need to fit as many cars curbside we possibly can. When you enter the car rider lanes, please fill both lanes so we can attempt to keep cars off of Career Center Road. We will continue to brainstorm solutions for drop off and pick up that wont affect your schedules. We will let you know of any potential changes.

Scheduling Update: We believe we have the majority of our schedule issues resolved. Inevitability, there is a possibility we may have missed something. We had a fantastic in person Transition Night planned for our 4th and 5th graders. We are sorry that we were unable to make that work given the current situation. However, our transition team has worked really hard to find a way to make sure that our new students feel welcomed into Team Liberty. We are so excited to meet you all in just a few short weeks! The list will also be posted on the district web page under Liberty and will be sent to the local stores. Liberty - Yearbooks for sale until next week! We still have about 10 yearbooks left- $20 cash/check at Liberty!

Liberty - Liberty Intermediate still has yearbooks left over! They are $20 -You can pay by cash or check. We have about 15 left. Liberty office is open today and tomorrow from 8am to 2:30pm and Friday 8am-12pm.

Liberty Announcement - Liberty still has over 40 bags of students locker belongings from the 19-20 school year. Every student has a bag of items. If your student says they don't have anything, they do! We don't want to discard these bags because items such as yearbooks, shoes, supplies and 5th grade D.A.R.E. shirts are in them. Please call Liberty at 815-929-5000 to see if your child has a bag here. If you already picked up their locker bag, please disregard this message. We will dispose leftover bags at the end of this week. Thank you!!

Attention Liberty Parents: Thursday and Friday (May 28th and 29th) of this week are the last two days to pick up your students' belongings. We have approximately 60 students that have yet to pick up their locker contents. This can be done between the hours of 8:00-3:00 in the Liberty main office. Also, if you have not dropped off your students' technology equipment, that needs to be done at the BESD53 Central Office which is located at 281 W John Casey Rd. If you have not turned in your district issued technology, you will be assessed a replacement fee on your student account. Please contact the Liberty main office if you have questions at 815-929-5000.

Liberty Intermediate - ATTN: 6th graders!!!! VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE!!!! Mrs. Riegel and Mrs. Koch are reminding students that you must turn in your chemistry book when your parent comes to pick up your things. PLEASE DON'T FORGET!!! Every 6th grader was given one and it needs to be returned. Tomorrow, Wednesday May 20th is 6th grade locker pick up day from 8am to 7pm. Thursday, May 21st is Chromebook drop off 8-6pm Friday, May 22nd is Chromebook drop off 8-6pm Thank you!

Reminder: Pick up and drop off is happening today until 7:00pm. Parents of both 5th and 6th graders are welcome to come today. The lines have been very open and we have been able to get stuff brought out to cars within a matter of minutes. We will also be available tomorrow from 8:00am to 7:00pm. See you soon!
