This information was shared to BUGC Families and Staff this morning:
Good Morning Upper Grade Center Families!
We were made aware of a potential threat in the early hours of this morning. We utilized our School Resource Officer as well as the Bourbonnais Police Department to determine if the threat was credible or non credible. After a thorough investigation it was found to be a non-credible threat (related to the rumor from yesterday) and related to an out-of-state social media posting with a related news story (https://www.mywabashvalley.com/news/otter-creek-middle-school-operating-on-a-hold-as-law-enforcement-is-investigating-threats/). This non-credible threat did not require the school to utilize our standard response protocols, but we are thankful for a quick response by our resource officer as well as the Bourbonnais PD.
We are aware some parents elected to pick their kid from school. We understand and respect those choices and those absences will be excused. We understand that even though the threat was deemed noncredible, it did potentially impact some of our students emotionally and we have social workers who are always able to assist with those students in need.
Thank you!

On Tuesday, August 20th Liberty Intermediate was recognized by Solution Tree as a Model PLC at Work School for its sustained success in raising student achievement. Professional Learning Communities are schools and districts in which educators recognize the key to impacting the learning for ALL students is a strong belief in the three big ideas of a PLC. The three big ideas call educators to:
Focus on learning.
Build a collaborative culture.
Create a results orientation.
To provide some perspective on this achievement, there are just over 115,000 schools in the United States, roughly 70,000 elementary and middle schools. Less than four hundred schools within the nation are recognized as Model PLC Schools and only thirty six in the state of Illinois. Being recognized as a Model PLC School identifies Liberty as part of the 1% of schools that receive this acknowledgement.
Team Liberty is ecstatic about this achievement but the work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to raise the bar and ensure that all students are learning and achieving at high levels.

School is back in session. Please be alert and stop for school buses!
- Never pass a bus from behind if it’s stopped to load or unload children.
- If the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, traffic must stop.
- The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop far enough back to allow them space to safely enter and exit the bus.
- Be alert; children often are unpredictable, and they tend to ignore hazards and take risks.
All Clear. The Phones are back up in the district.

If you have any questions, please email Transportation@besd53.org
Thank you,
