Notice of Vacancy on the Board of Education
Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Education of Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53 is accepting applications to fill the vacancy resulting from the passing of Board President Jayne Raef. The individual selected will serve from the date of appointment until the next regular school election.
Legal Qualifications for Membership at a minimum, a candidate must meet the following qualifications at the time of appointment:
Be a United States citizen.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be a resident of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
Be a registered voter.
Not be a child sex offender.
Not hold an incompatible public office.
Not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the District.
Not be a school trustee.

Qualified residents should submit a letter of interest and a resume or statement of qualifications to:

Applicants should demonstrate familiarity with the Board’s policies regarding general duties, fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, and ethics, which are available on the District website.
Selection Timeline
Application Review: The Board will review all applications during a Special Meeting on February 24, 2026.
Interviews: Candidate interviews are intended to take place on March 4, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM. All applicants are requested to make themselves available on this date should they be selected for an interview.
Final Appointment: The final selection will be confirmed via a public vote of the Board of Education.
