Total Solar Eclipse

On April 8th, BUGC students will be viewing the solar eclipse.  Eclipse glasses will be provided to the students so that all may participate in the viewing safely.  These glasses meet the requirements for ISO 12312-2:2015 certification.  It is important that students do not look at the sun directly except during the full coverage to see the corona flares.  BUGC Science classes will be going over viewing safety procedures this week to prepare. While we are not in the 100% viewing area, we hope to have a great view of this rare event as the next total solar eclipse that will be viewable from the contiguous United States will not occur until 2044.

If you DO NOT want your child to participate in the viewing of the Eclipse on Monday, April 8th, please email Principal Outsen at outsenj@besd53.org no later than April 5th, 2024.

By allowing your child to participate, you know the risks of your child viewing the eclipse, you informed your child of the risks, you freely assume the risks, and you voluntarily waive all claims against Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53, its employees, members of its Board of Education, its insurers, and anyone else acting on behalf of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 arising from the solar eclipse, including, but not limited to, claims arising from any materials provided by Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 for viewing the solar eclipse and claims for negligence, including gross negligence.
