WELCOME PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Dear Liberty Families,

Liberty will be a transitional educational experience for our students as they exit the elementary setting and prepare for junior high. They will experience cognitive growth along with social development as well. Students are placed on teams which allows a group of teachers to collaborate and provide the best support for students. We will support them as they develop independence, self-advocacy, and empathy skills. The intermediate experience truly focuses on the growth of the whole child. Our students move from the traditional elementary school schedule to transitioning from class to class throughout the day. Along with the core content focus, our students have the opportunity to Explore a variety of different specials. Students rotate quarterly through art, music, Spanish, and technology. Students also are lucky enough to have daily physical education instruction.

5th Grade:

The fifth graders have a homeroom teacher with which they will have at least two classes. Most students will have their homeroom teacher for math and reading and then either science or social studies. Students who excel in reading and/or math are placed into advanced (SAIL) classes which may or may not be taught by their homeroom teacher.

6th Grade:

Sixth grade teachers work on teams of four. Students rotate between four teachers on their assigned team for Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Classes in core subject areas are 57 minutes long. Students who excel in reading and/or math are placed into advanced (SAIL) classes, where appropriate, based on the previous year's assessment data.

Sincerely,

Bret Pignatiello, Principal

Abby Saldivar, Associate Principal
